Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA) EAC Student Mobility Scheme 2026/2027 Overview

The EAC Student Mobility Scholarship Scheme is a regional initiative managed by the Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA) to foster student exchange across the East African Community. The scheme funds students to pursue postgraduate degrees (Master's or PhD) at designated universities in an EAC Partner State other than their country of origin, promoting academic collaboration and regional integration.


Eligibility Criteria


  • Nationality & Residency: Must be a citizen and resident of an EAC Partner State (Burundi, DRC, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania, or Uganda).

  • Cross-Border Requirement: Must apply to a university located in an EAC country outside your home country.

  • Academic Threshold: Must hold an Upper Second-Class Honours, Distinction, or equivalent for Master’s and PhD programs.

  • Age Limits: Must be under 35 years for Master’s applicants and under 45 years for PhD applicants at the time of application.

  • Additional Assets: Work experience is an added advantage for PhD candidates.

How to Apply


  1. Select an eligible Master's or PhD program at a participating host university in another EAC country.

  2. Verify that you meet the host university’s specific admission criteria.

  3. Compile and convert all required application documents into clear PDF files (and image files for photographs).

  4. Access the official IUCEA EAC Student Mobility portal and complete the online application.
